Fish

Snapshot

  • Farmed salmon and trout are the main species in farmed fish production.
  • Farmed salmon is by far the largest, accounting for around 40% by value of Scottish food exports and contributing £2bn annually to the UK economy.
  • Both sectors met almost all targets laid out in 2017, although the salmon sector faced significant challenges from fluctuating water temperatures and novel pathogens, and the trout sector struggled to secure supply of a key vaccine.
  • No HP CIAs were used in the production of either fish, and no antiboitics are used preventatively.
  • For more detail on the salmon and trout sector targets, please refer to the full Targets Task Force Report 2020 and also a special annex detailing salmon production.
